BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Incoming European Commission President Jose
Manuel Barroso has revamped his European Union executive branch for
parliamentary approval and proposed Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini as
candidate for justice commissioner.
At the EU summit which opened Thursday night in Brussels, Barroso said he would present his new
team to European Parliament leaders on Friday, barely a week after the
legislature forced him to back down Italian candidate Rocco Buttiglione, China
Radio International reported on Friday.
After hearings for the new candidates, Barroso is expected to put his team
to the parliamentary vote during the session of Nov. 15.
In other changes to his nominated lineup, Barroso said he would shuffle
former Hungarian foreign minister, Laszlo Kovacs from energy to taxation and
customs.
Meanwhile, Barroso accepted the new candidate from Latvia, former
ambassador to the EU Andris Piebalgs, as energy commissioner.
During the two-day summit, European leaders will also discuss regional
economic growth as well as international issues.
