Palestinian militant killed in Jenin

    RAMALLAH, Nov. 3 (Xinhuanet) --A Palestinian militant was killed near the West Bank town of Jenin when Israeli troops opened fire on a group of militants trying to flee from an ambush on Wednesday,Palestinian witnesses and military officials said.

    The militant was identified as Rayid Quran, 29, they said.

    Meanwhile, the Israeli Radio reported that five Israeli soldiers were wounded on Wednesday, two moderately, in separate incidents in the Gaza Strip.

    It said that an Israeli soldier was moderately wounded by Palestinian snipers in the Rafah Yam settlement, in southern Gaza,where another soldier sustained a light hand wound.

    The two were working to improve the defenses of hothouses in the settlement's outskirts when the snipers opened fire. The soldiers were rushed to the Soroka hospital in Be'er Sheva, said the radio.

    Elsewhere, three Israeli soldiers were wounded, one moderately,after a mortar shell landed in an Israeli army base in the Gush Katif settlement bloc in the Gaza Strip.

    The radio said that the other two soldiers sustained light wounds. Enditem
