Musharraf says no sell-out on Kashmir
www.chinaview.cn 2004-11-02 01:01:52

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Monday said there would be no sell-out on Kashmir, stating that Pakistan is not under any pressure whatsoever on the long-standing dispute, according to the official Associated Press of Pakistan.

Addressing a gathering of intellectuals at a dinner in Islamabad, Musharraf said Pakistan is for a peaceful settlement ofthe lingering Kashmir dispute with India and that a resolution of the issue has to be acceptable to all the three parties concerned -Pakistan, India and the Kashmiri people.

"I can never compromise on the interests of Pakistan, never will we sell out, never will we buckle under any pressure and there is no pressure on Pakistan," Musharraf said.

He said he sees light at the end of the tunnel as there is a growing desire and realization among the people of the two countries that its peaceful settlement will lead to tremendous development of the region.

He added that the Kashmiris have to be part of the solution.

Musharraf denied he has spelt out any solution to the Kashmir dispute when he said last month that the Pakistani media should initiate a meaningful public debate on possible options. Enditem
