GAZA, Nov. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Al Damir Institution for Human
Rights on Monday voiced support for Peter Hansen, head of the UNRWA, against
pressure that Israel puts on him.
The institution said in a statement that Israel was working to replace Hansen by defamation and twisting his work.
Israel has asked the United Nations to investigate Hansen,
commissioner general of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), since the
Israeli army released a video that Palestinian militants loaded a rocket into a
UN vehicle, a charge denied by the UNRWA.
The Al Damir institution condemned Israel for launching
media attack on the UNRWA after Hansen accused Israel of breaking the
international law with crimes in the Palestinian refugee camp of Jabalya.
The institution asked the international community to reject the Israeli
pressure against Hansen, demanding that all Arab and international human rights
organizations write to UN chief Kofi Annan to support Hansen and the UNRWA.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian children institution also showed its support to
Hansen.
In a letter addressed to Annan, the institution said "when Israeli tanks
destroy houses and tear our tiny bodies, the man of peace Peter Hansen is always
beside us, waving the UN flag to ensure security and stability." Enditem
