TOKYO, Nov. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Delegates from Asian and African governments, organizations and private sectors are gathering Monday in Tokyo for a conference on promoting economic cooperationto realize a self-reliant and sustainable economic growth in Africa.
The two-day conference, known as TICAD Asia-Africa Trade and Investment
Conference, is held as part of follow-up actions of theThird Tokyo International
Conference on African Development (TICADIII) last year.
At the conference, participants are expected to review the current
situation and the future potential of the business relations between Africa and
Asia, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
The role of the public sector in facilitation of trade and investment will
also be addressed.
They aim to establish a network between the public sector and the private
sector within and between the two continents.
The meeting is co-organized by the Japanese government, the United Nations,
the Global Coalition for Africa, the United Nations Development Program and the
World Bank.
During the conference, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will talk
with Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
