www.chinaview.cn 2004-11-01 08:47:23

KIEV, Nov. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych led the presidential elections by gaining 49 percent of the vote with about 22 percent of the precincts counted, said the Ukrainian Central Elections Commission early Monday.

His main challenger, opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko received 32 percent, said the commission.

However, since both of the them fail to score the 50 percent needed to win outright n the first round, a runoff winner-take-allballot between the two will be held on Nov. 21. Enditem
