KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Police warned Friday that they would
not allow any mass gathering at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to
welcome former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on his return from overseas
on Sunday.
Any gathering would be illegal since no permit for it had been
issued, Selangor police chief Mohd Fauzi Shaari told reporters after inspecting
police preparations to ensure public order at theairport on Sunday.
"We know there are some supporters planning to organize such a gathering. I
want to advise them that they should be responsible for what they do."
"If there is any undesirable incident, the organizers must be prepared to
bear the responsibility and the risk," he said.
Police have erected six roadblocks on the road leading to the KLIA
terminal.
Anwar, 57, is expected to return with his wife Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and
several family members.
He is now in Jeddah after performing his umrah (visit to the holy place).
Early last month, he was in Munich, Germany, where heunder went treatment for a
back ailment at a private clinic.
Anwar was freed from prison on Sept. 2 after the Federal Court allowed his
appeal against his conviction and sentence for sodomy.
Fauzi said Anwar was scheduled to arrive Sunday morning and he expected the
road leading to KLIA to become congested between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.
He advised people who needed to take flights in the morning on that day to
go to the airport early.
Those who had no business at the airport during that time wouldbe barred
from approaching the terminal building, he said.
"We will make sure everything will go on as usual, that people won't be
disturbed," he added. Enditem
