5 Russian miners dead, over 200 others trapped underground after gas explosion

   MOSCOW, Oct. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Five Russian miners died and 14 others were injured as more than 200 Russian miners were still being trapped underground Thursday after a gas explosion occurred in a central Siberian mine, Russian news agencies quoted government sources as saying.

    The incident took place in the city of Belov in Kemerovo regionearly Thursday, officials from the ministry for emergency situations said.

    Some 240 miners were trapped at the time of the gas explosion.

    Nine rescue teams have rushed to the site, the agencies said, adding that a committee has been formed to investigate into the tragic event. Enditem
