BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Shenzhen Customs appointed 23 special consultants and inspectors Monday to boost its continuing anti-corruption drive, Shenzhen Daily reported Tuesday.
The 11 consultants are mostly from relevant government departments and some industry associations, including Tan Guoxiang, secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Song Zhiwang, vice director of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People¡¯s Congress.
These consultants are to direct the general anti-corruption policy of the customs and help it build an honest and clean working style.
The 12 inspectors, mostly from the media and major Shenzhen-based companies, include Chen Juncong, vice president and general manager of Shenzhen Press Group.
They have been invited to help gather public opinions and suggestions for the customs, and scrutinize its performance.
The appointment of the consultants and inspectors set a good example for other administrative departments in building an accountable, efficient and clean government, Tan Guoxiang said.
¡°I am greatly encouraged by this move and feel very obligated to helping improve the customs¡¯ work,¡± said Kenneth Tse, general manager of the Yantian International Container Terminals, one of the inspectors.
¡°Nowadays there still exists various smuggling cases, which are a major cause leading to corruption, and we hope the outside scrutiny force may help us curb corrupt activities,¡± said Zou Zhiwu, chief of Shenzhen Customs.
As an important customs service in China, the Shenzhen Customs oversees more than 25,000 enterprises with about 10 percent of the country¡¯s total tariff income. Enditem
