YAOUNDE, Oct. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Cameroon's Supreme Court ruled on Monday that President Paul Biya has been re-elected in the Oct. 11 elections, turning down the opposition's appeal for nullifying the results.

The 71-year-old Biya, who has ruled the West African country since 1982, will serve another seven-year term.

The court said Biya has been successfully re-elected as he gained 70.92 percent of the vote. The court said voter turnout wasas high as 82.83 percent.

Biya's overwhelming victory, officially announced on Oct. 14, was questioned by his rivals, who asked the Supreme Court to nullify the results on the grounds that there were widespread irregularities in the voting. Enditem
