MOSCOW, Oct. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on the international community to concentrate more resources to support the Iraqi provisional government, the Interfax news agency said Friday.

In a response letter Putin thanked Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Alawi for his condolence on the latest terrorist attacks in Russia, the Kremlin press service reported on Friday.

"Active promotion of a political settlement process, arrangement of constructive interaction between all leading political forces in the country, which reject terrorist methods, would facilitate sooner normalization of the situation in Iraq," Putin said.

The president noted that "along with this, it is necessary to mobilize additional resources of the international community to support efforts being made by the Iraqi provisional government. Itis exactly what Russia's initiative on calling an international conference on Iraq is aimed at."

He said the Russian and Iraqi people "are tied by traditions of friendship and cooperation that have been developed for years."

"Russian specialists were directly involved in helping Iraq develop the basic sectors of its economy and gained unique experience in your country," Putin said.

He emphasized that Russia should play an important role in Iraq's economic reconstruction, Interfax said. Enditem
