RAMALLAH, Oct. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- A senior Palestinian official saidon Thursday that an European ministerial delegation would meet Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat before holding a conference on thestalled Mideast peace process in Britain.

"Any conference would be held on the basis of the Madrid agreement and other international agreements and plans, especially the roadmap peace plan," chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told the Voice of Palestine.

"What has to be done is to end Israel's occupation, as it is theshortest way for peace and security in the region," he said.

Concerning an argument over a proposed Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in Israel, he said, "Any party in Israeli can not determine the Palestinians' destiny."

"If Israel is serious about peace, it must return to the negotiating table and consider the pullout as part of the roadmap instead of an alternate," Erekat said. Enditem
