BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- A double-headed snake has been found at a construction site in Beijing.
Witnesses say the 60 centimetre-long serpent was dark yellow in colour and had dark markings scattered over its body. Its two heads formed a ¡°Y¡± shape three quarters of the way up its body, but otherwise appeared normal.
The snake was able to move with astounding speed, and could also point its heads in different directions while moving.
Experts estimate the two-headed snake belongs to a variety of grass snakes and hatched from a single egg with two yolk cells. Generally, these genetic variations do not survive very long.
Unfortunately, the rare specimen died shortly after it was found.
