Possible new talks on DPRK nuclear issue after US elections
www.chinaview.cn 2004-10-21 14:01:51

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Stalled six-party talks on the DPRK nuclear issue could be held soon after the US presidential election. South Korea's foreign minister made the announcement in Seoul on Wednesday.

Ban Ki-moon said discussions between the countries involved in the talks had led to a shared belief they should work toward the swift resumption of the six-party negotiations.

The talks have been on hold with Pyongyang refusing to participate unless Washington drops what the DPRK calls its hostile policy.

Meanwhile, South Korea's defense minister, Yoon Kwang-ung, has begun a five-day visit to the US. He will discuss the nuclear issue with the US Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice.
