KHARTOUM, Oct. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Sudanese Foreign
Minister Mustafa Othman Ismail described here Tuesday the recently-held African
minisummit on Darfur in Libya's capital of Tripoli as "very successful"..
The one-day five-way summit on Sunday was attended by leaders ofEgypt, Chad, Sudan, Naigeria and Libya, trying to
solve the problemin Sudan's western region of Darfur within the framework of the
African Union (AU).
"The summit has sent a clear political message to the
international community that Africa is keen to keep the Darfur filewithin the
African framework," Ismail said in a press statement released after Sudanese
President Omar El-Basher returned home fromTripoli Monday evening.
The Sudanese foreign minister noted that the summit
had expressed its rejection to any foreign intervention in the Darfur issue and
urged the international community to leave the African country to lead the
Darfur issue to the end.
The summit meeting stressed the importance of the
contribution of the international community to implement what was agreed on by
the African leaders, Ismail urged.
He pointed out that during the summit meeting,
African leaders discusseed a comprehensive view put forword by Sudanese
President El-Basher in the the four agenda regarding the humanitarian, security,
political and social situations in Darfur.
The leaders appreciated the efforts exerted by the
Sudanese government to improve the humanitarian situation and facilitate theflow
of humanitarian aid to Darfur and stressed that the African Union must continue
playing the leading role in solving the Darfur crisis.
The summit assigned ministers of the five
participating countries to form a mechanism to follow the efforts exerted and
deliver reports to the leaders of the five countries, Ismail said, adding "the
first meeting for this mechanism will be held in Cairo, Egypt." Enditem
