1500 erhu players seek record

Beijing, Oct. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- In east China's Jiangsu Province, nearly 1,500 musicians came together to play the erhu, a traditional two-stringed instrument.. picking up their bows in a bid to break the world record.

Sunday's performance in Xuzhou lasted about nine minutes. The army of performers played four classics, including the famous "Moon Reflected in Two Springs." The Guinness World Records organizing committee will decide whether a new mark has been set, CCTV.com reported Monday.

The erhu is a bowed string instrument, similar to a violin, but with just two strings. It dates back to the Song Dynasty, more than nine centuries ago.
