Urgent: Strong earthquake hits eastern Japan

    TOKYO, Oct. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- A strong earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit eastern Japan early Sunday morning, the NHK television reported.

    The 02:19 a.m. (0519 GMT) quake measured 3 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7, according to NHK's news channel. It was feltin wide areas including Tokyo and its neighboring prefectures. Enditem
