TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Iran on Saturday said
it would reject any European proposal to drop its uranium enrichment, the state
television reported.
"Any proposal which deprives
Iran of its legitimate right to a fuel cycle is not acceptable," Hossein
Mousavian, head of foreign policy of Iran's Supreme National Security Council,
was quoted as saying.
Mousavian, however,
expressed that Iran would be willing to consider "any package that recognises
the full right of Iran to enjoy peaceful nuclear technology within the framework
of the NPT (nuclear Non-Proliferation
Treaty)."
The official reiterated that "Iran is
not prepared for cessation. Any package including a cessation of fuel cycle work
would be rejected by Iran."
His remarks came
after three EU countries of Britain, France and Germany were seeking support
from the US and Russia for a deal to ask Iran to give up uranium enrichment in
return for technical and economic
assistance.
Iran has been accused by Washington
of secretly developing nuclear weapons. But Iran insists its nuclear program is
only for peaceful energy purposes. Enditem |
