Iraq, Syria sign transport agreement

    BAGHDAD, Oct. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Iraq has signed an agreement with Syria on land, air and water transportation as well as railway, a local newspaper reported Thursday.

    The agreement includes providing facilities necessary for transporting goods into Iraq through Syrian harbors and activating the Iraqi Navigation Company for mutual cooperation in implementingan expansion and development program by exchanging experts and technical studies in the field of harbors.

    It sets a mechanism for implementing the suggested projects of private sectors in the two countries, and assigning private sectors50 percent of goods transportation in Iraq.

    It also includes developing border checkpoints and coordinating the air navigation to allow airplanes to pass through the two countries. Enditem
