Beijing introduces cell phone detector to prevent exam cheating
www.chinaview.cn 2004-10-14 18:20:18

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Beijing municipal education department will distribute cell phone signal detectors to college entrance exam supervisors in an effort to prevent the rampant cheating via text message.

As small as a cigarette case, the detector can trace any cell signal in a radius of 30 meters to the phone user.

Last year, more than 100 students were caught in Beijing's adult college entrance exam using mobile phones to get test answers; this accounted for 40 percent of total students caught cheating.

Earlier this year, Ministry of Education banned examinees from carrying modern telecommunication devices into exam rooms. Anyone found cheating, is forbidden from taking the test again, accordingto Li Hongjiang, an official taking charge in college exam under Beijing Municipal Education Department.

The adult college entrance exam is second chance for those students, who failed the national university entrance examination,to get a college degree. Last year, about 4 million people in China took the exam.

About 115,427 examinees will attend the adult college entranceexam this year in Beijing's 173 exam spots. The exam will take place held Oct. 16 to 17. Enditem
