KAMPALA, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has
criticized the US operations in Iraq, saying that the unrest there was caused by
the poor handling of military-civilian relations, state-owned newspaper The New
Vision reported Wednesday.
"Unless an army reinforces the strategic relationship with the people, that army cannot survive.
An army should not bark at people," Museveni told 31 Uganda People's Defense
Forces (UPDF) senior officers attending a one-year course in Jinja district, 90
km east of Kampala.
Uganda is one of the five African countries that supported the US military
operations in Iraq.
Museveni said he joined the US coalition to fight Saddam Hussein because
the Americans said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.
He said his cabinet advised him otherwise, but he went ahead. "But now,
what is happening there confuses me," he said.
He said the problems in Iraq were due to US "arrogance." "I supported them
without knowing their other reason of going to war.Now because of that, I am in
some problems," he added.
He said the coalition was wrong to demobilize one million Iraq soldiers and
appointing an American governor. Enditem
