CHANGSHA, Oct. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The alma mater of Mao Zedong, the foremost leader of the Communist Party of China and founder of New China, has moved.

The first batch of 3,000 students of Hunan No.1 Normal School Friday moved to the new site in Dongfanghong Town in Yuelu district, Hunan's capital city of Changsha, 15 km away from the old site, an official with the school said.

The new campus, which will be complete in 2007, covers 667,000 square meters and can accomodate 15,000 students.

The old site failed to meet the demands of teaching, as its enrollment swelled to 9,000, up from around a hundred in Mao's day.The school welcomes some 100,000 visitors per year, the official said, adding that it will be renovated as a dedicated base of "patriotism education." Enditem
