Jihad confirms commander's escape of assassination in Rafah

    GAZA, Oct. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement confirmed Monday that Mohamed Sheikh Khalil, commander of the group's armed wing Saraya al Quds, escaped an assassination attemptby Israel in southern Gaza.

    A spokesman of the group, who gave his name as Abu O'beida, said Khalil managed to escape after the house he was hiding in was targeted by Israeli missiles in Rafah refugee camp close to borders with Egypt.

    Witnesses said an unmanned Israeli drone fired a missile at the house, wounding five people.

    It was the third time that Khalil survived a possible assassination within the last few months.

    He was wounded in a previous Israeli attack, during which hisleg was cut off.

    In a second airstrike, two of his brothers were killed in Rafah. His another two brothers were killed in Lebanon in 1983 when Israel invaded south Lebanon. Enditem
