JERUSALEM, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A 28-year-old Palestinian was killed and
three were wounded Sunday morning in an new Israeli airstrike in the Jabalya
refugee camp, in the northern Gaza Strip, the Ha'aretz daily reported on Sunday.
The missile strike by the Israel Air Force targeted a house neara mosque,
witnesses and rescue workers was quoted as saying.
An earlier report from Gaza said one Palestinian was
killed and 10 were wounded in the airstrike in the refugee camp. Sunday's deaths
brought up to 100 the number of Palestinian skilled since Israel began its
offensive codenamed "Days of Penitence" in northern Gaza on Sept. 29 to stop
Palestinians from launching Qassam rockets into Israel.
Palestinians said almost half of those killed in the raid were civilians.
With the military operation in its 12th day, the Israeli army is
considering redeploying and scaling back on the number of its troops on the
outskirts of Jabalya, the paper said. The Israeli army's campaign commanders
will meet Sunday and recommend reducing the number of troops in northern Gaza
Strip, as Israel is concerned about the increased threat to its soldiers as the
campaign lasts longer.
Seven Palestinians, among them a nine-year-old girl, were killed in Gaza
over the weekend. Two Israeli soldiers were reported slightly wounded over the
weekend during clashes with the Palestinians.
Israel Radio reported Saturday night that an Israeli helicopter fired a
missile at a home in the Jabalya refugee camp, injuring four Palestinians.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for Palestinian National Authority Chairman
Yasser Arafat, said Saturday that there was a link between the terror attacks in
Sinai of Egypt and the Israeli military operation in Gaza.
"Israel's continued occupation and aggression feeds anger and hatred and
encouraged those who carried out the attack," Rudeineh said.
A chain of blasts occurred in Taba of Sinai peninsula on Thursday night,
killing 35 people, mostly Israelis, and wounding more than 100 others.
