CAIRO, Oct. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- An official of the Arab League (AL)said Thursday that the pan-Arab organization was fed up with the US veto of a UN draft resolution which urged Israel to stop military operations in northern Gaza.

   "We're fed up," said Said Kamal, AL deputy secretary general for Palestinian Affairs, in a statement.

   He accused the United States of repeatedly vetoing UN draft resolutions "on behalf of Israel," saying international attempts to back the Arab position is always foiled by the United States.

   The United States on Tuesday vetoed an Arab-backed UN SecurityCouncil resolution demanding Israel immediately end military operations in the Gaza Strip and withdraw its troops.

   Germany, Britain and Romania abstained from the vote on the draft proposed by Algeria, Tunisia and Pakistan while the other 11UN Security Council member states voted for the motion.

   The Israeli army has launched a large-scale operation in northern Gaza since Sept. 28, asserting it aimed to stop Palestinian militants from firing rockets at Israel.

   The operation has killed some 80 Palestinians so far, including many civilians.  Enditem
