TOKYO, Oct. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- A strong earthquake measuring a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 struck Tokyo and the Kanto region in east Japan Wednesday night, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The agency did not issue a tsunami warning, and there are no reports of damage or injuries so far. But all train services in Tokyo temporarily halted due to quake.
The 11:40 p.m. (1440 GMT) quake registered a lower five on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of seven in southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture and the southern part of Saitama Prefecture.
The focus of the quake, which was strongly felt in Tokyo and its neighboring prefectures, is 60 kilometers underground in northern Ibaraki Prefecture, the agency said. Enditem |
