PYONGYANG, Oct. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Multilateral talks on a nuclear-free
Korean Peninsula should begin with the South Korean nuclear issue, a spokesman
of the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said
Wednesday.
The secret nuclear experiments in South Korea, which were carried out in 1982 and
2000 respectively, have made the peninsula's nuclear issue more complicated, the
spokesman said.
The spokesman said the nuclear experiments are an overt confrontation to
the aim of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.
The South Korean government admitted last month that scientistsof the Korea
Atomic Energy Research Institute made two experiments to produce small amounts
of plutonium and uranium, the two main types of fissile material used in nuclear
weapons.
But Seoul claimed the two one-off experiments were conducted without the
authorization and knowledge of the government and underscored they were for
academic purposes only. Enditem |
