KABUL, Oct. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese government donated a large number of office equipment and recreation materials to the Afghan transitional government on Tuesday in a fresh bid to further promote the traditional friendly ties between the two countries.

Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Sun Yuxi and Afghan Foreign Minister A. Abdulla co-signed the notes exchanged between the two sides at a brief ceremony held at the Afghan Foreign Ministry.

The new shipment includes 400 desktop computers, 300 printers, a number of TV sets, digital cameras, as well as footballs, volleyballs and athletic garments with a combined worth of 1 million US dollars.

This is the fourth largest donation made by the Chinese government. In late 2002, China also donated 20,000 pairs of police uniforms and boots as well as 8,000 police overcoat.

In late June this year, China also provided the Afghan police with some communications equipment and vehicles, worth 1.4 millionUS dollars. Enditem
