JAKARTA, Oct. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Former Army general Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has been confirmed winner in the Sept. 20 presidential runoff against incumbent President Megawati Soekarnoputri, an official said Monday.

Valina Singka Subekti, spokesperson for the General Election Commission (KPU), told PASS FM radio station here that Yudhoyono won the polls with around 24 million votes above Megawati.

Earlier on Sunday evening, the KPU announced it has concluded ballot count in all provinces but the West Irian Jaya, a newly-established province on the easternmost island of Papua.

The tally results in 31 provinces confirmed a landslide victoryfor Yudhoyono with 69.08 million votes or 60.63 percent of total votes while Megawati got 44.87 million votes or 39.37 percent.

Megawati could not beat Yudhoyono even if all voters in West Irian Jaya province voted for her.

The KPU said Yudhoyono took lead in 27 out of 31 provinces. Megawati won most of the votes only in Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan and Maluku.

KPU deputy chairman Ramlan Surbaktui said he expected the commission would be able to announce the official result later on Monday after West Irian Jaya delivered its tally result. Enditem
