JERUSALEM, Oct. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- About 20 protestors were lightly wounded on Sunday in clashes with police during a demonstration against the construction of the separation wall in the West Bankcity of Hebron, Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported.
Around 400 demonstrators from both Palestinian and Israeli leftist groups gathered at the construction site and clashed with Israeli Border Police officers.
According to the protestors, they were wounded when policemen beat them, fired tear gas and shot rubber bullets at them in attempts to disperse the crowd.
Hospital officials in Hebron said at least 20 people were wounded.
An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said the demonstrators were trying to obstruct the construction work of the wall and clashes broke out when security forces asked the activists to evacuate the area, a demand refused by protestors. Enditem |
