Musharraf appoints spy head as new chairman of joint chiefs of staff

    ISLAMABAD, Oct. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Saturday appointed the country's spy head as new chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to the official Associated Press of Pakistan.

    Director General of Inter Services Intelligence Lt. General Ehsan-ul-Haq and Corp Commander of Karachi Lt. General Ahsan Saleem have been promoted to the rank of general.

    Ahsan Saleem has been made Vice Chief of Army Staff, the No. 2 in the country's powerful armed forces.

    The promotion and new appointments came when General Muhammad Aziz, chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Vice Chief of Army Staff General Muhammad Yousuf will retire on Oct. 7. Enditem
