BEIJING, Oct. 1(Xinhuanet) -- Car bombings in Iraq's capital Baghdad on Thursday have killed at least 45 people and injured more than 200 others. Attacks on U.S. troops have risen around 80 a day.

Witnesses say insurgents have detonated at least two bombs near a U.S. military convoy in southern Baghdad, killing at least 41 people, 35 of whom are children.

Two U.S. military bases were also attacked by car bombs and missiles, killing three U.S. soldiers and two Iraqi police and wounding 20 others.

Hours earlier, a suicide bomber killed two Iraqi police and a U.S. soldier by blowing up his car near a U.S. checkpoint at a crowded intersection in Abu Ghraib, just west of Baghdad.

Meanwhile, the northern Iraqi city of Mosul was also attacked. Two Iraqi police died and one was wounded.

Instability is mounting in Iraq just four months before nationwide polls, and a few weeks before the U.S. presidential election in November. Attacks on U.S. troops have risen to around 80 a day from 40 a month ago.
