Two Israeli children killed in Qassam rocket attack

RAMALLAH, Sept. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Two Israeli children were killed and at least 11 others were wounded Wednesday evening in a homemade Qassam rocket attack when it hit the southern Israeli town of Sderot, Israeli sources said.

An infant was among the dead and the wounded were taken to nearby hospital, Israeli rescue workers said, adding one person was in serious condition, two people sustained moderate wounds and eight were treated for light injuries.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket attack, which came after at least four Palestinians were killed Wednesday during an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) raid in the northern Gaza Strip aimed at preventing the firing of Qassam rockets.

A Palestinian preparing to launch a Qassam rocket in Jabaliya refugee camp of northern Gaza was killed Wednesday by a missile fired by an Israel Air Force helicopter, the IDF said. The rocket launcher was also destroyed.

Early on Wednesday, two IDF soldiers were lightly wounded in a mortar attack in the Gaza settlement of Netzarim. Enditem
