KAMPALA, Sept. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The European Union (EU) has funded 129 infrastructure development projects worth 4 billion shillings (about 2.3 million US dollars) in Uganda's northeastern Karamoja region, local press reported on Wednesday.

The projects implemented by the Karamoja Project Initiative Unit included health and education infrastructure.

Program Manager Kluge Stefan said 50 percent of the money had been released.

He said Kotido district received 800 million shillings (about 460,000 dollars), while Moroto and Nakapiripirit received 400 million shillings (about 240,000 dollars) and 350 million shillings (about 200,000 dollars) respectively.

Stefen said the disbursed money was part of the 8 billion shillings (about 4.6 million dollars) channeled through the Karamoja program for the implementation of peace and economic development programs. Enditem
