Hong Kong chief Tung lauds Paralympic prowess

    ĦĦHONG KONG, Sept. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa on Tuesday hailed Chinese Hong Kong's Paralympic athletes for winning a record 19 medals in Athens.

    "I would like to convey my heartfelt appreciation to each and every member of the delegation," said Tung. "Their achievements have earned the recognition and acclaim of the community."

    A total of 26 Chinese Hong Kong athletes took part in athletics,boccia, judo, shooting, table tennis and wheelchair fencing competitions in Athens and scored 11 gold, seven silver and one bronze medals.

    Chinese Hong Kong also ranked first on the medals table of the wheelchair fencing event with a record eight gold, five silver anda bronze medals.

    In the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Hong Kong won eight gold, three silver and seven bronze medals. Enditem
