Iraq considering to establish constitutional court
www.chinaview.cn 2004-09-28 17:58:42

BAGHDAD, Sept. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The Iraqi cabinet adopted a number of recommendations concerning the establishment of the federal constitutional court, local newspaper Al Nahdhah reported here Tuesday.

According to the recommendations cited by the newspaper, the court will look into the constitutionality of laws to make sure that they will not contradict with the constitution.

The court will also ensure presidential and governmental resolutions are in harmony with the tenet of the constitution and the international treaties and agreements signed by the government will not violate the country's sovereignty.

Article 44 of the State Administration Law, which is considered the interim constitution, stipulates the constitutional court in the federal state shall be established in Baghdad.

In addition, the cabinet also adopted recommendations on the compensation of civil servants killed in duty.

The bereaved families will be given the sum of the civil servants' monthly salaries as well as compensations as the moral commitment from the state to the employees is without any discrimination, said the newspaper. Enditem
