    ATHENS, Sept. 27 (Xinhuanet)-- China emerged as the dominating force of Paralympic Games in Athens with a total gain of 141 medals, 63 of them gold medals on Monday, as the 12-day event is approaching the end.

    Although there is one day left for competition, the country has already secured the top place in the medal standings since runner-up Britain is 28 gold medals behind and only three gold medals to be decided before the closing ceremony Tuesday evening.

    The United States, which has been quickly climbing the ladder in the past few days, has moved up to the third place with 27 goldmedals, followed by Canada, Australia and Ukraine.

    In athletics, which concluded Monday, spectators had a competition day full of excitement with 30 finals of men and women's events in many categories.

    China came in the top with four gold medals, while Australia, Russia, New Zealand, Canada winning two gold each.

    Of 18 Swimming finals taking place at the main pool of the Olympic Aquatic Center, Spain claimed two gold medals while a number of countries and regions won gold each, including China, Britain and Canada.

    China won the spectacular sport of women's sitting volleyball in the final while adding three golds in table tennis.

    In the cycling road contests, the Czech republic, Austria and Spain won two golds each while Australia, Germany and Belgium grabbed one gold each.

    Finally, at powerlifting, Iran claimed gold medals in both the men's 100kg and above 100kg finals.

    On Tuesday, the last day of competition includes finals of boccia, wheelchair basketball and 5-a-side football. Enditem
