Chinese reading fewer books
www.chinaview.cn 2004-09-28 14:10:17

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- A report released by the China Publishing Sciences Institute shows that the Chinese are reading less books these days due to the quickened pace of life and the development of new media.

According to the institute's survey, busy study and work are the main reasons people can afford little time to read.

The number of readers who regard reading as a means to learn and broaden their vision continues to decline, while more and more people say they just read to be entertained.

Development of the Internet has changed the reading habits of many, further shrinking the market for traditional print media, though newspapers and books are still the main sources from which people obtain information.
