BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- In China, with the start of the national holiday just days away, a jovial atmosphere is prevailing nationwide. Festivities including flower shows and lamp exhibitions are already getting going to bring people a wonderful golden holiday week.

This year's National Day marks the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. In the center of Beijing, after twenty days of hard work, Tian'anmen Square is a sea of color. 300,000 potted flowers have been used to build displays. The most eye-catching is a circle of heart-shaped patterns around a water fountain at the center of the square.

In the northern coastal city of Tianjin, the Mazu cultural tourism festival has opened in Haihe square. Tourists from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Fujian province brought water and soil from their hometowns to put together to symbolize the unification of China.

In Qingdao, another seaside city in the east, the trees on the roadside are wearing flower skirts and scarves. In Luoyang City in central China, 10,000 pots of peony blossoms gave a pleasant surprise to local citizens.

And in Hong Kong and Macao, various lanterns and lamps have been hung up alongside roads and in cultural squares. And astute businessmen opened store promotions, offering handsome discounts to lure customers.
