ATHENS, Sept. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- She always smiles. And this time she is the one who smiled to the end.

The most beautiful and joyful smile.

Wang Ting, a smiling girl from Shanghai, won the women's shot put Class F54/55 with a throw of 16.47 meters in the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games Friday. It was her first ever Paralympic gold medal.

"I am very happy, of course, to be the champion," she said after her victory.

"It's more than expected, you know. But after first three rounds, I was the best. I know I am winning," Wang said, full of confidence.

Wang always smiles and challenges difficulties in life with smiles.

She was hit by polio when she was just eight months old and a delay of treatment caused her permanent disability with legs.

"I never have the feeling a walk. But I never cried. Because it won't work!"

Wang did well in high school entrance exam, but no school would accept her, just due to her disability.

Then she tried to find a job but, again, failed.

Wang always remembered what she heard when applying for a job. "Many able-bodied persons are jobless. What do you come for?"

1999 marked an important turning point in her life. Wang was picked out by some coaches into a Paralympic training camp for the national Paralympic games the following year, where she won five gold medals.

Wang is also a good singer, said Sun Baoquan, coach for China's Paralympic athletics team.

"There is no match to her voice in our team," he added. Enditem
