    ATHENS, Sept. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- The wheelchair fencing competitions wound up after the final event of men's sabre open team event, which was won by Hong Kong, China at the 12th Paralympic Games here on Thursday.

    The Hong Kong, China team of Fung Ying Ki, Hui Charn Hung and Tai Yan Yun defeated Sydney games silver-medalists Poland 45-43 to take the title here on Thursday.

    Hong Kong advanced into the final after a 45-15 quarter-final victory over Spain and a 45-38 semi-final win over Italy.

    The Poles qualified for the final after a quarter-final bye and a 45-39 semi-final win over France.

    With eight gold, six silver and one bronze, Hong Kong, China is now ranked 13th in the 2004 Athens games' gold medal table and 15th in the overall medal standings.

    Hong Kong, China failed to enter the top three in this event in the Barcelona Paralympic Games in 1992. But they came back strong to take the silver medal in Atlanta four years later. The team won the bronze in the 2000 Sydney games. Enditem
