ATHENS, Sept. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Australia proved to be a real powerhouse in track cycling at the 12th Paralympic Games by grabbing two more gold medals on the fifth and last day of the sport here on Wednesday.
The two gold medals helped Australia to top the final medal standings in cycling track races with 12 medals (8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze).
Britain ranked second with medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze)and Spanish finished with 3 medals (1 gold, 2 silver).
During the last day of track events, in men's tandem B-1 3km time trial, Australian Anthony Biddle and his pilot Kial Stewart won the competition in 1 minute 5.141 seconds.
In the men's LC1-4 and CP3-4 team sprint, the Australian team with Greg Ball, Peter Homann and Christopher Scott were crowned Paralympic champions, scoring the best time at 53.968 seconds.
The United States and France claimed the silver and bronze respectively.
In the women's B1-3 tandem 3km pursuit final, American Karissa Whitsell and her pilot Katie Compton upset Australian Lindy Hou and Torieasa Ryan (pilot). Whitsell finished the race with 3:36.816, setting a new world record and grabbing the gold, whilr Hou, who was the previous world record holder, ranked second in 3:39.318. Enditem |
