ATHENS, Sept. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Sweden's legendary shooter Jonas Jacobsson continued his enduring success in the Athens Paralympic Games Wednesday after winning the 11th Paralympic gold medal since he first attended the quadrennial event in 1980.

"All the competitors were of equal ability, so the possibilities to win were similar. Fortunately all my shots were prefect and I won my third gold medal at the Athens 2004 Games," said a joyful Jacobsson following his spectacular show in the mixed R3-10m air rifle prone SH1 competition.

Jacobsson beat other finalists with a total score of 705.3 points and once again broke his own world record.

Sim Yae Yong from South Korea and Kazimierz Mechula of Demark came out second and third.

"I am so happy because once more I achieved to equal my world record in the qualifying round," Jacobsson told reporters.

Jacobsson, 39, is competing in his seventh Paralympic Games after staying competitive in international level for over two decades starting from the 1980 Arnhem Paralympic Games.

Among his impressive medal collections are 20 Paralympic medals: 11 gold (including three won here), one silver and eight bronze medals. With 14 world and Paralympic records to his credit, Jacobsson boasts as one of the most successful Paralympians ever.

Born with a disability in lower limbs, Jacobsson started shooting at the age of 7, encouraged by his parents and two brothers who are also shooters.

He is an admirer of boxing legend Mohammad Ali and loves scuba diving, basketball, table tennis and golf.

Jacobsson will seek his fourth gold medal at Athens, in the mixed R6-50m free rifle prone SH1 event scheduled for Thursday. Enditem
