BEIJING, Sept. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Liu Yunshan, publicity chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met here Tuesday with Sumner M. Redstone, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Viacom Inc. of the United States.

    Liu said he appreciated Viacom's exchange and cooperation with the Chinese media, saying over the past 30 years, exchanges and mutual understanding between the people of the two nations have been strengthened gradually, but not enough.

    "China needs to further understand the United States, while theUnited States also needs to learn more about China," acknowledged Liu, who expressed his hope that Viacom, as one of the largest media groups in the world, could make a greater contribution to increased mutual trust and understanding of the people of the two nations.
