ATHENS, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- After an exciting start for the Paralympic sport swimming on Monday, world records continued to tumble on the second session of the 9-day swimming program at the 12th Paralympic Games here on Tuesday.
Benoit Huot from Canada began with a world record time of 59.54 seconds in men's S10 100 meters butterfly. He dominated the pool from the very beginning and won with an overwhelming advantage ahead of the world record holder Daniel Bell of Australia, who finished ahead of Jody Cundy from Britain.
Polish Magdalena Szczepinska won the first gold for her nation when she stopped the clock at 1:12.30 in the women's 100m butterfly S10.
The second world record of the final came from the men's S4 50m backstroke. After breaking the games record Monday morning, Ignacio Juan Reyes from Mexico decimated his own world record in a time of 45.73, beating Kestutis Skucas of Lithuania and Zeng Huabin of China.
Mayumi Narita from Japan, who won the women's S4 100m freestyle Sunday, had another comfortable win in 50m backstroke. She led throughout the race, clocking a new Paralympic record of 49.54.
He Junquan from China, who broke the world record of the men's S5 50m backstroke Sunday morning, controlled the final to win in a time of 37.53, just outside his own world record.
The 34-year-old Chinese took the gold medal as a great gift for his newly born son and hoped him to be as strong as his father.
Ukrainian Oleksandr Mashcheko set another world record later in men's 100m breaststroke SB11, in a time of 1:10.53.
Four consecutive world records pushed the second day of the swimming program to the peak.
Sandra Gomez became another swimmer who broke the world record twice, in the heats and the final. The Espanol led from the beginning to win in 1:21.41 in women's SB12 100m breaststroke, lowering her own world record by 0.56 seconds.
Chinese Yin Jianhua bursted after the turn and broke his own world record set in Sydney Games to win men's S6 100m freestyle in 1:07.60.
Doramitzi Gonzalez from Mexico and Briton David Roberts renewed the world records in women's S6 100m freestyle and men's S7 100m freestyle successively, after their respective victories.
Erin Popovich of the United States cut in the record rush with a Paralympic record. She clinched her second gold by winning the women's S7 100m freestyle in 1:14.61.
The spectators screamed again when Ben Austin, who was upset by Chinese Wang Xiaofu on Sunday, recovered to beat Wang's world record in men's S8 100m freestyle. The young Australian turned first and finished 59.83 to win a competition without Wang, the pre-event favorite.
Briton David Roberts and Australian Mattew Cowdrey gave a perfect ending of the day with two more world records, in men's 100m freestyle S7 and S9 events respectively.
Swimmers from Britain, Czech Republic, the United States, Ukraine and Canada split the six other gold medals out of the day's total of 20.
The swimming program, featuring 167 disciplines, are held at the Indoor Pool of the Aquatic Center from September 19-27.
