Australians dominate Paralympic cycling in Athens Games

    ATHENS, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Australia proved to be a powerhouse in the 2004 Athens Paralympic cycling competitions as its riders dominated three of the four finals here on Monday.

    In the women's B1-3 tandem sprint, Australian Lindy Hou with his pilot Janelle Lindsday won the final racing with 13.174 seconds in the first ride and 12.819 seconds in the second.

    Britain's Darren Kenny was crowned Paralympic champion in the CP3 3km individual pursuit by setting a new world record of three minutes 46.260 seconds. Spanish Javier Otxoa and Kenny's teammate Andrew Panazzolo grabbed the silver and bronze medals.

    Another Australian rider Chirstopher Scott, road time trial champion in both Atlanta and Sydney, triumphed once more in the Athens Velodrome in the CP4 3km individual pursuit in 3:32.598, a new world and Paralympic record, beating his teammate Peter Hommanand Czech rider Jiri Bouska.

    In the men's LC1-4 1km time trial, Australian Greg Ball won the gold medal by setting a new world and Paralympic record of 1:21.767. French cyclist Laurent Thirionet and German's Tobias Graf ranked second and third. Enditem
