ATHENS, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- China's Paralympic champion weightlifter Bian Jianxin is determined for her efforts to win a second consecutive gold medal, in women's 48kg category competition, of the 12th Paralympic Games here on Tuesday.

    Bian won the gold medal in Sydney and she also holds the world records in both 40kg and 48kg categories.

    Amalia Vasquez Perez of Mexico, second in Sydney in the 52kg category, and Somkhoun Anon of Thailand, silver medallist in the category in Sydney, will be Bian's toughest challengers.

    In the women's 52kg category, Tamara Podpalnaya of Russia is the one to watch, as she won the gold medal in Sydney and still holds the world records for both 52kg and 56kg categories.

    On Tuesday, she will face another Paralympic champion, Iyabo Ismalia of Nigeria, winner in the 48kg category in Sydney.

    Egyptian Abir Nail, the silver medalist in the category, will also compete in the 52kg category in Athens.

    In the 56kg category, Fatma Omar of Egypt will try to win her second consecutive Paralympic title, after her victory in Sydney in the 44kg category. However, she will feel very difficult to achieve that goal, as she faces three strong competitors, Huo Zhenling of China, Patience Aghimile Igbiti of Nigeria and Moekie Grobbelaar of South Africa.

    Men's 52kg category could be proved an one-man-show: Osama el Serngawy of Egypt has by far the highest personal best and was Sydney silver medalist. Only Gholamphossein Chaltoukkar of Iran seems able to prevent him from winning gold.
