ATHENS, Sept. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- With a newly-taken gold medal on the second day for the sport, Hong Kong is well ahead in the medal standings at the 12th Paralympic Games fencing event here on Sunday.

After a "Day of Hong Kong" featuring three gold medals in individual events on Saturday, the women's epee team of Hong Kong won the team open title by beating their Hungarian opponents on Sunday evening.

Chan Yui Chong, Fan Pui Shan and Yu Chui Yee won six out of the nine matches and outscored the Hungarians 45-33 for the sport's first team honor in the Athens Games.

The Hong Kong fencers were part of the Saturday's stunning victory, when Yu won over Fan to take the women's individual epee Category A title and Chan lost Thai Saysunee Jana in the women's individual epee Category B final to take the silver medal.

The Hungarians were however happy with their performance. "The team from Hong Kong was fencing very fast and in a fanatic way," said Judit Palfi after the match.

France won the bronze after beating 45-42 defending champion Poland from the Sydney Olympic Games.

China became the Paralympic Games men's foil team winners, after beating Hong Kong 45-41 in the final. Enditem
