BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- The Olympics may be
over, but the Paralympics are not. Those Games open in Athens later on Friday
with organizers making last minute preparations for the world's top disabled
athletes.
Half a month ago, this was the Olympic village, and
now, it's the home of athletes taking part in the Paralympic Games.
Here, everything is designed for the convenience of
the disabled athletes. These ramps make it easy for wheelchairs to enter.
Buildings with more than one story have been provided with lifts, gates and
doorways are especially wide, and walkways are cobbled for blind people. The
principle is ¡°no barriers¡± and accesses for everyone, whatever their disability.
China's athletes have all expressed their
satisfaction with the living conditions in the Paralympic village and they've
adapted well to the climate in Athens.
Their aim is to try to enter the fifth place, compared to
the sixth last time, and they hope to live up to the standard of their Olympic
colleagues and prove that China is a force to be reckoned with in the world of
disabled sports.
