ATHENS, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- New traffic regulations and special busses were introduced in Athens from Wednesday to September 30 to meet the needs of the 12th Paralympic Games and local authorities called on games spectators to use public transportation network.
Special license is now required for access and parking in the area neighboring OAKA main Olympic complex and some other venues including Hellenikon complex, Galatsi Olympic Hall, Nikea weightlifting complex, and Markopoulos equestrian and shooting center.
There are no limitations regarding parking in wider neighborhoods, which also required a license during the August 12-29 Summer Olympic Games here. And there will be no traffic lane exclusively reserved for the Paralympic family.
A total of 571 busses are in operation to carry Paralympic athletes, their escorts, coaches, referees and media representatives, semi-official Athens News Agency reported on Wednesday.
Of the total number, 337 busses have been refit to carry four to six wheelchairs each and they can transport up to 6,000 athletes and their escorts from the Paralympic Village to the airport and the venues. Only 18 busses don't have such facility.
One thousands referees now have 60 busses at their disposal and another 120 busses are allocated for the transportation of media representatives between the village, hotels, Main Press Center and the venues.
The spectators are called to use the public transport network comprising of metro, tram and suburban to reach their destination. This system has provided flawless service during the Olympic Games. Enditem |
